If your son or daughter is playing basketball this season then we ask that a fee of $40.00 be paid. This fee pays for our membership in LIMSSA, referees, facility rentals, uniforms, equipment, as well as additional costs that occur in running an athletics program. Please pay this fee online at School Cash Online. If you need further instructions please see the main page of the Dunsmuir Middle School website. The Crompton Learning Commons (CLC) will be running 2 fundraisers in the month of November. The first is our annual Purdy’s chocolate fundraiser. Catalogues and information will be handed out in the first week of November. Our Scholastic Book Fair will also be coming to Dunsmuir from November 23rd-28th.  If you have any questions before these two fundraisers start, please contact Sarah Baas (sbaas@sd62.bc.ca)

Thank you to everyone who has purchased chocolates from Purdy’s through our fundraiser for new technology and books for the learning commons. If you have not yet done so, please place your order. Order deadline is this Friday, Nov 17th. For more information on ordering, please see below: What you can do to help: Ask everyone you can think of to help us out! We are hosting a Scholastic Middle School Book Fair on Thursday Nov 23rd, Monday Nov 27th, and Tuesday Nov. 28th. The book fair will be in the Crompton Learning Commons (CLC). The book fair will be open 11:00AM – 8:00PM, and Monday/Tuesday from 8:30AM-4:30PM. The selections offered focus on students in middle school, and offers a wide range of high interest, yet affordable books. There will also be other items including: bookmarks, stickers, erasers, pens, etc. Books that are sold out during the fair can be ordered, and will arrive shortly after the book fair is done! All profits from the book fair will go towards the CLC – please support our Learning Commons as we update our current collection of both nonfiction, and fiction books! Cash, credit and debit cards, and cheques will be accepted. If you are paying by cheque, please make it payable to Sooke School District. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. We now have 607 (we are up 6 consents from last week!) Consents done! We are so close in getting our whole school signed up. See below for instructions on getting signed up! Ensure you have completed the online consent form. The consent must be completed or the school cash does not have authorization to pull student information from our database.

Once the consent form is completed please give 24-48 hours before adding a student to your school cash account.

When completing the consent forms and setting up your school cash account please make sure that you are using one of the email addresses we have one file.
Please make sure you are using your students PEN numbers

School sport schedules are posted on our website every Friday for the following week. Parents can access the “Sports at a Glance” on our Dunsmuir homepage

On Nov. 23, 2017, Dunsmuir Middle School will be holding our first Student-Led Conference for parents.  Please see the attached information regarding Student-Led Conferences.  If you are planning to attend our conferences, your child must attend the session with you. On Nov. 23rd, Students will be released for the day at 12:11pm and the school buses will run 3 hours early.  We will begin our Student-Led Conference at 1:30pm and continue our day with the following schedule:

Afternoon Session                  1:30-4:15pm
Dinner Break for Teachers     4:15-5:30pm
Evening Session                     5:30-7:15pm
When you arrive, your child will bring you to their Advisory Class and lead you through a discussion on the Core Competencies.  Your child should be able to answer all questions regarding achievement in each block.  Once the visit to the Advisory class has been completed, you are welcome to tour the school and pop into see other elective classes.  If the Advisory classroom seems to be busy when you arrive, you may wish to tour the school first.    We would really appreciate your feedback on this process as this is a first for us.  Any new initiative we bring to the school can always be improved with time.
