EMAIL TO PARENTS – March 7, 2018

Please visit our new website at http://dunsmuir.sd62.bc.ca/

I wanted to send a quick message to inform the Dunsmuir Community of some changes that will be taking place in the near future.  Sometime after Spring Break, I will be moving over to be the Principal of Spencer Middle School.  Right now, Spencer Middle School has an Acting Principal in place.  Rather than posting the principalship for Spencer, the senior administration gave me the opportunity to move over to take on the principal role.  I agreed to move, so they have posted the job for principal of Dunsmuir Middle School.  It is hopeful that the Board will approve the recommendation from the hiring committee sometime before Spring Break or shortly after.   The members of the Board Office would like to see who the successful candidate will be for the principal of Dunsmuir before they announce my starting date at Spencer Middle School.  We expect that some transition time will be needed between the two Principals.  I am currently in my 30th year of Education and most of my career has been at Dunsmuir Middle School.  I spent one year in Australia and a year and a half at Belmont, but other than that, I have been a teacher, Vice-Principal and Principal at Dunsmuir Middle School.  This was a very difficult decision, but I decided it was an amazing opportunity and it was time to try something new.  I will definitely miss the staff and students at Dunsmuir, but look forward to working with another school community.   Sincerely,  Darren Russell Principal – Dunsmuir Middle School

Registration is open. To register your child you will need their nine (9) digit PEN number. This can be found on the top right corner of their report card or you can call the Dunsmuir Middle School office and they will be able to provide you with your child’s PEN number. Along with the online registration students applying for Dance Academy and Soccer Academy are required to complete a separate application package that can be found on the Dunsmuir Middle School website, as well as at the office. Registration and applications must be completed by March 9th. It is not a first come first serve basis. Students will be selected based on the registration and their application.

Parents, please see attached an opportunity for current Grade 6 and 7 students to travel to Quebec next January/February. This is a trip packed full of activities such as: sledding (luging at le Grand Massif), attending the opening ceremonies of Carnaval, circus school, cooking class, dinner and a show at a traditional sugar shack, and the list goes on. The price will depend on number of participants. Students are only responsible for their spending money, and lunches during their visit. Please also note that a supplemental night may be added if all participants decide to. Students who have been on this trip in the past thought it was amazing – it’s culturally and historically enriching, and not to mention, very fun! If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Baas (sbaas@sd62.bc.ca).
