IMPORTANT DATES:
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN MUSICAL – ROYAL BAY – MAY 3, 4, 5, 10, 11TH
Next Wednesday, May 9th, Grade 8 students will be walking over to Royal Bay to enjoy the 9:30am performance of “Catch Me if You Can”. They will be returning to the school before lunch. Please plan accordingly as students will be unable to leave the performance once it starts. Looking for an evening activity? Royal Bay’s musical, “Catch Me If You Can” starts tomorrow night. Take this amazing opportunity to watch a fun story about a teenager who travels the world pretending to be a pilot/doctor/lawyer. The play is based on the Leonardo Dicaprio movie of the same name and is based on a true story. Having seen the rehearsals, the show is worth a visit! Located on the Community page; Parents

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS
We have been advised the website is down for completing any new Criminal Records for Volunteers. The “Consent to a Criminal Record Check for Volunteers” form is attached.  Please complete section A with the following information: School name – Dunsmuir Middle School School’s contact – Earleen Covey School crc ID number –  1559111 (NOT the access password mix of letters and numbers.) You can email the form to ecovey@sd62.bc.ca or bring it to the office.

GRADE 8 LEAVING PERMISSION FORMS
Permission forms were given out to students this week. There are extras in the office. The permission form must be returned to the office. Payment must be made online. The deadline is May 24th.  If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Baas (sbaas@sd62.bc.ca) If you are not set up for the online fees, please refer to our School Cash online instructions on the website under Parents, Online consents & fees http://dunsmuir.web.sd62.bc.ca/parents/pay-online/.

SCHOOL CASH ONLINE CONSENTS
Parents, for those who are not familiar with the cash online, there are options for payment. You can pay by credit, echeque and mywallet. There is a 24 hour help line you can call at 1-866-961-1803. We now have 691 (we are up1 consent from last Parent Email) Consents done! We are so close in getting our whole school signed up. See below for instructions on getting signed up! Ensure you have completed the online consent form. The consent must be completed or the school cash does not have authorization to pull student information from our database. Here are some additional instructions from our website on the consent portal: http://dunsmuir.sd62.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/30/2017/09/School-Cash-Instructions.pdf Once the consent form is completed please give 24-48 hours before adding a student to your school cash account. When completing the consent forms and setting up your school cash account please make sure that you are using one of the email addresses we have one file. Please make sure you are using your students PEN numbers.

SPORTS
Rugby, Drop-in Badminton and Track and Field schedules are now available on the Athletics page of our Dunsmuir website HERE. Please encourage your students to listen to the daily Student Announcements for athletic updates. Did you know parents can read our daily announcements that are posted to our website HERE every day?

“VAPING”
We have had a number of students bringing vapes (e-cigarettes) to school and vaping on the school property.  We have reminded students that this is not appropriate and will not be tolerated in the building, on the property or on the school bus.  Could you please talk to your child to remind them of this Policy:
Students, staff and visitors may not smoke at Dunsmuir Middle School or on the property of the school; smoking
is prohibited and illegal on the premises of all Sooke S.D. #62 schools at all times of the day. As per Capital Regional District Bylaw No. 2401, smoking is not permitted on any part of the school grounds: “No person shall carry or have in their possession a burning cigarette, cigar, pipe containing burning tobacco or electronic cigarette (e-cigarette), or burn tobacco in any other manner in any school yard or inside any {school} building.”
