EMAIL TO PARENTS – March 10, 2021
Hello Dunsmuir Families,
We hope that you all enjoy the spring break to the greatest extent possible. Hopefully the weather cooperates, and everyone can get out for some fun in the sun. Please see below for a few information items:
- In the spring, each student will need to indicate whether or not they are taking Band, Choir, Jazz Band or academies for next school year. Please pay attention for this in April.
- We look forward to welcoming students back to successful conclusion to the year following spring break. Please remind your children to follow all of COVID Protocols upon their return and remember that if your child is showing signs of illness, they should remain home until symptom free.
- We will be visiting elementary schools in April to meet the new students and continue with the transition process.
- For those families who are new to DMS and missed the parent info night, a video of the evening will soon be posted to our website.
We wish you and your families the very best over the spring break.

SPIRIT DAY FRIDAY
For our last spirit day before Spring Break, leadership 8 presents: ‘60s or 16th century day! Come dressed in your tie-dye or as your favourite Beatle. Maybe the Tudor Age inspires you and you want to dress like Henry the VIII or Leonardo Da Vinci. Bonus if students pull off both! Groooovy man.

2021 IMMUNIZATION UPDATE
Immunization consent packages were distributed to Grade 6 students in October of 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, parents were then asked to fill out the consent form, return it to the school and book into a school-aged appointment at West Shore Health unit.
We are pleased to share that Public Health Nurses will be able to offer the second round of immunizations within the school later in the spring. If you have not completed a consent form for your child or have questions about their immunizations please contact the Westshore Health Unit at 250-519-3490 and ask to speak to a School Health Nurse.
PACK IN AND PACK OUT
A reminder to all parents that students are expected to bring home any refuse associated with their lunch/snacks.
POINTS OR PROGRESS
Will be out by March 12th and available either online, through MyEd OR as provided by your child’s classroom teacher. Each teacher should have communicated with you on how and when they will provide this.
The next opportunity for remote learners to begin attending DMS is following spring break. We hope that all remote learners are finding success.
REMOTE LEARNERS AND PHOTOS
If you ordered pictures, please contact the school (250-478-5548 ext 0) to confirm that we have them and establish a pick-up time. If you have any questions, please contact Lifetouch Photos at 1-866-457-8212.
STUDENT OPPORTUNITY FOR CREATIVITY! HIGH SCHOOLS AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS ! … VIRTUAL GALLERY – DEADLINE MARCH 31ST
See attached. Also located on Parent; Community page
Please be sure you are following posted speed limits and traffic laws in and around the school. With close to 900 students attending DMS, drop off and pick up times are very busy (as you can attest to) with the added congestion at these times, extra caution and patience in required to ensure the safety for all and courtesy to our neighbors. We have had the RCMP attend at these times to help ensure compliance with traffic laws and ensure safety for all. We are also actively searching for any other possible solutions.
Reminder to students to bring their Water Bottles to school. The drinking stations are all operational. Thank you.
If you would like to order a yearbook this year you will need to do so ASAP. We will have to tell the yearbook company our order numbers by Spring Break so get your orders in soon so you don’t miss out. We have sold out the last two years! This year will be a particularly interesting year to purchase a yearbook, with all the pictures with masks and the whole book has a Covid theme. Hopefully there will never be another year like this one, so it will be like a little piece of history. Get yours today for only $40. You can purchase one on the school cash online website https://sd62.schoolcashonline.com/Home/SignIn
