“Wade in the Water” is among spiritual songs believed to have been sung to communicate secret code messages to escaping slaves. It warned them to flee dry land for the water, so the dogs and owners chasing them couldn’t track their scent. Such songs are believed to have been used throughout the Underground Railroad — a secret network used by thousands of slaves to escape to freedom during the 19th century.

Congratulations to Allora E. in Mrs. Poynter’s class for bringing home 3 gold medals in gymnastics from the BC Winter Games!

She won Gold in the following events:

-CCP7 All Around 

-CCP7 Bars

-Vancouver Island Zone 6 Team

 
 

SOGI Club moved to Thursday, due to Ms. Wilson Burke being on a field trip today.

 
 

All grade 8 students who are interested in a session to paint our school’s Coast Salish art mural, please check in with your classroom teacher to sign up for a session (if you have already participated, students can help with the painting more than once).
