IMPORTANT DATES:

WELCOME TO DUNSMUIR

Welcome and thank you all for a great start up. It was so good to see the students again and welcome the new grade 6 students to our school.

Hopefully, by the end of this week, we will be finalizing our enrolment and staffing. We had several new registrations over the last few weeks, but we have also had students move on to other schools. We may have to make some adjustments over the next few days, but we do our best to avoid and further disruption to student placement. When we organize class composition, we spend weeks placing all students in their cohort class. We spread out huge chart paper and add each individual student one at a time. We factor in recommendations from last year’s teacher, male/female ratio, friend groups, non-friend groups, designations, band, choir, academies, academic ability, behaviours, learning styles and more. So at this point, we are not planning on moving students, but we would be more than willing to help transition students into a new school year. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

ORANGE SHIRT DAY – SEPTEMBER 29TH

PARKING – PLEASE HELP US WITH OUR TRAFFIC CONGESTION!
Please exercise extreme caution when picking up and dropping off students at Dunsmuir Middle School. The front of the school is very congested during the morning and after school. To help with these safety issues, I would recommend that you pick up and drop off students on the side streets, and remind students to use the crosswalk located at the front of the school. I would also like to remind parents that the parking lot on the North side of the gym is for staff members only. It is very difficult and unsafe to parents to park in this area. Our bus loop has been an amazing addition to our school, but this bus loop is for school buses only. This will help us maintain a safe environment for all our school community. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.

ONLINE CONSENT PORTAL – Phase 1
The parent page – This is where parents login to provide and/or review consents for their children.

  • When using the system for the first time, parents must use the front page to request an access number (which acts as their password).
  • Parents use the verification number to gain entry. From there, they can provide consent to the six activities. If your student is not listed, please make sure that the email address used is the same email address your students school has on file.
  • This is meant to be a one-stop shop for parents to provide consent.

The URL for this page is https://consent.sd62.bc.ca Here are the consents that are available as this time to be collected online:

  1. Freshgrade (online tool)
  2. GAFE (Student Access to Google Apps for Education)
  3. Media Release
  4. KEV School Cash Online
  5. Short (Walking) Field Trips
  6. Internet Access – Available

When do the Consents expire?

  • Some consents (namely GAFE, KEV, and FreshGrade) expire once a student leaves the district and/or graduates
  • Some consents last one school year
  • The system tracks the expiry of these consents. To renew a consent year to year (for Internet access, as an example) a parent simply reconnects to the system next school year. The system will note that the consent has expired and will give parents an opportunity to renew their permission.

How do you sign up for these consents?

Step 1 – Add registration@sd62.bc.ca to your email contacts

Step 2 – Parents go to the link https://consent.sd62.bc.ca

Step 3 – Add your email address

Step 4 – Go to junk folder as the verification number may be sent to this folder. Make note of your SD62 email verification number

Step 5 – Add the verification number

IMPORTANT DATES:

STUDENT BEHAVIOUR We have had in increase in something called “Pantsing” at Dunsmuir Middle School. Pantsing is the pulling down of a person’s pants or shorts and often the underwear, mostly against a student’s wishes and typically as a practical joke. The most common method is to sneak up behind the intended victim, grab the pants at the waist, and apply a quick downward tug before the victim is aware of the assailant’s presence. Pantsing has become a common prank and we have made it clear that this action is a form of bullying. The Administration made an announcement this morning to the entire school community, that this “Prank” must stop. The message was very clear to all, “Pantsing is not tolerated at Dunsmuir, or anywhere, and there will be serious consequences issued to those who continue to take part in this behaviour”. At the very least, parents will be called and students will be sent home. Please have this conversation with your child to be sure they understand the seriousness of this behaviour. Thank you for your help and support around this issue.

ATHLETICS/UNIFORMS If your child has a school uniform at home or in their locker please have them return it to Ms. Caldwell as soon as possible.
