Dear DMS families,
By now some of you have logged into your MyEd BC parent portal and have learned who your child’s classroom teacher might be for the upcoming school year. While the information that is currently in the system is getting closer to being finalized, we are still making adjustments due to expected ongoing fluctuations in enrolment.
At Dunsmuir Middle School we take great care in creating classes that are thoughtfully designed to provide the best possible learning experience for all our students. This process involves a considerable amount of time, effort, and collaboration between our teachers, counselors, inclusive education department, and administration team to ensure that each student is placed in a class that will best support them in the upcoming school year.
We understand that some students will not be initially happy with their placement. But please note that your support in being positive with your child’s placement, no matter what they may feel initially, is the greatest predictor of their happiness and success long term. In our experience, with staff and family support to accept the way things are, students adjust and make new friends quickly.
We have received several emails from parents regarding their child’s placement and we are attempting to respond to your emails as promptly as we can. Please note that we will be unable to make changes to your child’s placement except in the most extreme of circumstances.
Our current focus is on getting the school ready to welcome your children back on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, which we are really excited about. It’s going to be a great school year!
